BIO

Arthur Ga

Arthur knew he had “dance” in his blood when he attended his first Salsa class in a very low-key and unassuming environment. The year was 1995 – the setting was at York University’s Hispanic Student Association. Arthur quickly learned the fundamentals, signed up for more lessons and before he knew it, he started teaching at the very place where it all began.

After many Salsa classes and on-going training with the very best schools Toronto and New York City had to offer, it did not take long before Arthur realized he wanted to share his interpretation of the beauty of Salsa with those who knew little about it. In 2000, Arthur fulfilled his dream of opening his very own teaching company, and founded Salsa Picante Dance Co. It was the same year Arthur met his current dance mate, Eloisa Tobias.

“Not only am I fortunate to give back and teach others about the joy of Salsa, I also met my special someone in a place where it all began for me. Together we’re doing the thing we love to do; dance with, teach and share the benefits to new and old salseros.”

Arthur’s appreciation of dance lead him to new heights as he learned the Latin Hustle and Afro Cuban dance styles and has also inspired his love for drum music; which prompted him to study the percussion from the conga, clave, bata to djembe. He believes music has many art forms and is very open to discovering its endless possibilities of expression. His passion for music and dancing clearly shows in his dance classes.

Spanish Heat by Trish BiddleOn Learning the Passion of Salsa:  Social Dancing vs. Choreography

The passion of the salsa dancer is unparalleled; rich, overflowing, mad -- and quickly becoming one of the most organized & professional street dances in the world.  This is the kind of dance that is both internalized and externalized.  Salsa is nothing without a least a little wow factor, but salsa is also nothing if you can’t just lose yourself in the music and dance like nobody’s watching.

In this article, we ask the question: how does social dancing compare to performance, for the student looking to tap into the unique passion of salsa?  [Click the link for more]
