Toronto Salsa:
Where We've Been
and Where We're Going with All This Dancing on the Spot -
by lyw
But,
booming aside, what happens to Latin music and
dance when you introduce it to the general
population of Toronto in the 1990’s?
Social dancers, such as myself, would arrive on
the scene.
We were the
Dancers-who-need-dance-lessons Dancers.
When it came to learning Latin dance,
you couldn’t turn to a girl like me and say,
“Just feel the music” and expect something good
to come out of that.

Latin
Soul!
A few years ago Arif Maherali
sat down and envisioned bringing a unique and fresh approach to teaching
Salsa in Calgary. His goal was to open a dance school that would teach
the fundamentals of Salsa while keeping it fun and relaxing.
Today, Latin Soul believes the most important ingredient to achieving
that goal is to inspire students with positive attitudes, a friendly
supportive environment and of course, the hottest Salsa in the City. We
want to help our students find a new way to express themselves and to
unleash their Latin Souls!

 San
Tropez Dance School
Hello, my name is Sonia, and
on behalf of the San Tropez Dance School I welcome you to our web site.
Back in 1993 on September 10, San Tropez had an inauguration party.
Success and excitement were in the air! There were smiling faces,
laughter, joy and, of course, lots of dancing. This night truly
represented why we started this school. Making people express and enjoy
themselves through dance, that's what we do best.

The Toronto Salsa Practice
is a relaxed, friendly gathering of salsa enthusiasts. It's an
opportunity to practice stuff you're not totally confident about yet,
learn some new moves, and meet other salsa dancers of all levels. It
isn't a club, and it isn't a school, but it combines some of the best of
both these institutions. The TSP has existed, in one form or another,
since early 2001. Since early 2002 it has been a regular event.

Salsa
in Rostov-on-Don
The triumphal procession of Latin American club
dances (salsa and merengue) in the world hasn’t reached that extend in
Russia yet. Nowadays salsa clubs are open in three Russian cities –
Moscow, St. Petersburg and Rostov-on-Don. The fact that people started
dancing salsa in the capitals is not surprising and in Rostov it came
thanks to several happy coincidences.
First and most important
are, no doubt, the Rostov founders of the
"Boogaloo"
club Marina and Gennady Vanyushin. They managed not only to catch their
students up in love to salsa and Latin American rhythms but also to set
the teaching of salsa in Rostov to a high level. Thanks to that it is
now possible to speak of Rostov school that differs from the Moscow and
St. Petersburg ones.[click

LATIN JAZZ PIANO VOLUME 1 by Carlos Campos (Book & CD) c/o
Partituras
"Many
musicians find that Latin Jazz and Salsa are still very difficult to feel and
play in an authentic, relaxed way. This type of music with its unique rhythmic
concept presents quite a challenge for the aspiring young performer. Mr.
Campos’ books titled “Salsa: Afro-Cuban Montunos for Piano” and “Salsa: Further
Adventures in Afro-Cuban Music” have done a great service to the musical
community by making Latin musical styles more accessible to students worldwide.
In his two previous books, Mr. Campos dealt with different aspects of Afro-Cuban
piano comping patterns, also called “Montunos.”
