BREAK DANCING ARTICLES c/o Breakdance in Canada
Since Breakdance in Canada has
stopped updating its pages, This Business of Dance & Music
has decided to reprint the best material just in case the
site goes completely down and we lose some great & damn
funny insights on breakdancing.
From
the Outposts of Hip Hop: The Stylordz: "Hip Hop as a
Physical Science"
"On November 23rd,
2003, the Stylordz held their first Hip Hop Congress in a
private, downtown Hamilton (a.k.a. Steel City, Canada)
location.
The congress marked a cap in the history of this
organization and is truly an example of how Hip Hop has
developed since its pioneering days – this rebellious art
form and urban storytelling turned industry, philosophy and
science."
Breakdancing: West coast
style c/o
Dancer's Delight
"I would like to submit you a more concise history of
westcoast street dancing. I myself was dancing over 22yrs
,my age is 33. I started pop-locking in San Francisco,
FRESNO ,LosAngeles area.& in Chicago an in New ORLEANS..."
Other Dance & Music Articles:
Capoeira
Article: the Malandragem & the Writer by lyw
Capoeira is a difficult topic to research.
It takes many forms and does not invite
over-exposure. The more you learn the more
you feel lost in the many versions and stories
that span a history (like most) that is hard to
account for. Its mystery is intensified by
the malandragem: the application of
trickery and deception and lauded as one of the main keys to
this art-form as a fight, a dialogue, a game, a celebration,
a friendship and a dance.

Extreme Kicks is the Leading
Edge in Breakdancing, Martial Arts, and Hip-Hop Elements. Based out of West
Chester PA, Extreme Kicks originally started as simply an instructional
class for breakdancing and martial arts. These instructional classes quickly
sparked a huge interest in what we soon realized was a rapidly growing
cultural trend. After realizing the wide spread appeal of this expanding
genre Brian, the president of Extreme Kicks, developed the idea of uniting
these dancers and martial artist to compete against one another in organized
events. In doing so Brian also realized that this genre held other
commonalties such as hip-hop music, and graffiti artists. So Extreme Kicks
reformed these competitions into events where people with musical, artistic,
and physical talent could come together and compete. In the past year that
Extreme Kicks have been in operations, we have held two extremely successful
events that averaged around 600 people and are currently working on our
third scheduled for November 11Th. This event is expected to bring twice
that number. These events are the first of its kind ever attempted and the
feedback has been amazing. This is because the excitement of our
competitions sticks with our spectators and competitors and keeps them
coming back for more.

Some Crew Bios:
Brutal
In an Air Force family, he moved all over the country as a
child and finally settled in Florida at age ten. During his life, he was
exposed to many music styles from the West, Mid-West, North, and South, but
didn't start picking up dance until more recently. He started by dancing to
Pop and Hip-Hop then learned Breaking later from friends at college. He
never believes in perfection, so he'll go back to even the beginning moves
and still practice them for improvement. Aside from dance, he is dabbling at
audio mixing, not with turntables, but with computers and compact disks.
Mirakle
A product of American Suburbia, he is vivacious, energetic, intelligent, and
comical. He has been raised in an interracial (Black and Filipino) military
family. He has lived all over the world and now claims residence in Okaloosa
County, Florida. He traces his fondest and most spiritual building memories
from his hometown Tampa, Florida, where -- before becoming interested in
breakdancing -- he performed, wrote, and produced Rap, R&B, and Pop music.
In his free time, he enjoys opening his mind to new adventures and
self-fulfilling experiences.
