Stompy
Jones is a San Francisco based sextet, renowned for their
jumpin' rhythm, wailing improvisations, hip charm, retro style, and
explosive stage show. Whether appearing at a posh supper club, concert
hall, festival or cozy tavern, these journeymen of jump deliver the
romping, joyous, overwhelming style of jazz that came to be known as
Rock and Roll!
The
Studio 88 Swing was founded in January 2002 by the Swinging Air Force.
Already teaching, mostly outside of Montreal, since 1999, the members of
this awesome performance and competition dance troupe thought it was
time to bring their incredible talent home... And bringing it they did!
Giving classes at various locations including the Aerobie SPA gym (2020
University), Maison du Tango (7350 St-Hubert) and Studio Metronome
(4232-A St-Laurent), the Studio 88 Swing became increasingly popular for
their fun, entertaining yet efficient teaching.
One
year later, boasting a large and faithful clientele, they decided it was
time to move on and get their own place. It would become the official
Studio 88 Swing on St-Hubert street, Montreal, on July 5th, 2003, after
tons of renovations that teachers and SAF members worked out mostly by
themselves!
On
August 28th 2004, a new page in the history of swing dancing in Montreal
was turned: the Studio 88 Swing moved to a new location at 372 Crémazie
Est, trading what was a functional dance studio to a magnificent venue
with stage and bar... and of course the same craziness and fun that was
always the trademark of the
Swinging Air Force!

Herräng Dance Camp (HDC), originally
started back in 1982, is since many years the leading and most
comprehensive African-American swing dance camp in the world. It was
from the beginning initiated by some members of the Stockholm based
Swedish Swing Society and was for many years a small and national event
gathering around 100 students per year. Things started to change however
in the early 90s when the camp suddenly began to attract more and more
foreign visitors and the amount of students rapidly increased. At around
this period of time the event also stabilized its dance-wise three main
priorities: Lindy Hop, Boogie Woogie and Tap. This year will in this
respect be no exception but with the addition of also Balboa.
