music trade publication catering to the music industry, its loyal fans, and
support services. From its unique vantage point, Music Connection magazine
has, for more than two decades, set its sights on every aspect of the music
business, from decision-making in corporate towers to performing in local

leading music trade magazine caters to the seasoned veteran as well as the
fledgling musician, and to the top executive as well as those trying to
break into the business. Its broad appeal encompasses the songwriter,
producer, studio manager, agent, attorney, publicist, label executive and,
of course, the professional and semi-pro musician. Music Connection magazine
is distributed through a network of newsstands, bookstores, 7-Elevens, AM-PMs,
record stores, and musical instrument stores, the readership is over 75,000.
Seventy percent of the readership is in Southern California, five percent in
Northern California, and the remaining twenty percent throughout every major
city in the United States and several foreign countries.

CD Baby is a
little online record store that sells CDs by independent
musicians.
We're just a few people
(details
here)
in a cool Portland, Oregon, CD warehouse that looks like
a playground. We listen to every CD we sell before we
sell it, so we can help you find other albums you'll
like.
We only sell CDs that come directly from the
musicians. No distributors. Musicians send us CDs.
We warehouse them, sell them to you, and pay the
musicians directly.
Cool thing: in a regular record deal or distribution
deal, musicians only make $1-$2 per CD, if they ever get
paid by their label. When selling through CD Baby,
musicians make $6-$12 per CD, and get paid weekly.
In business, and thriving, since March 1998. We're
the largest seller of independent CDs on the web.

Dig Your Roots is all about
developing and promoting new Canadian music from the four corners of this
culturally diverse and musically rich country. It is an exploration of
independent talent from the Canadian underground. Its scope is wide ranging
and focuses on original forms of music that are currently under-represented
in the Canadian music scene.
Sponsored by
Corus Entertainment Inc.,
the NCRA/ANREC will produce a series of genre-specific compilations that
will coincide with live concert simulcast broadcasts. For each compilation,
there will be:
a nation-wide call for submissions
an
online promotion involving artist MP3s
an esteemed panel to choose the compilation artists
a nation-wide
"tour" of the compilation. Rather than artists going out on the road, this
tour will actually involve live coast-to-coast broadcasts of regional
concerts on radio stations across the country.

Hot
Stepper Productions was founded by booker/promoter Carlos Mondesir.
Drawing from a love of music and a devotion to attending the best clubs and
events in Toronto, New York, his native London and beyond for the past twenty
years. Carlos began applying his intuitive knowledge of underground urban
culture in the summer of 1995. Approached by the El Mocombo Club to create a
regular progressive soul night, Carlos along with DJ Curtis Smith and brother
Pedro Mondesir began Soul Sundays booking and promoting live bands and guest
DJs. Soul Sunday nights included mixings of local live funk, dub, jazz, hip
hop, soul and DJs with guests including DJ Injex, Luke McKeehan (Mo' Funk),
Jacksoul, Medeski Martin and Wood and others.
