when we dance salsa

Warm and soft

Between the shirt, between the rooms,

The cars, the streets

Elevator up!  Elevator down!

Between the politics // between the sheets

And she’s so singular

When held in between urban heats.

Enter the bar and join the other dancers.

What is the body?  What is theirs?

Something for blood to flow between?

Guidelines on where to dance between?

Jump up, and leave the earth

Move Left, and leave the Right

Move Right, and leave the Left

A few buttons, and leave the clothes

A few breaths, and leave with the soul

Enter the bar, wanting

To melt down

The singular body

Through the sweetly blind, winding

Passages of salsa

Traveling between them and us

And between you and me

We dance up to maybe

Could we

Push past

Being in between.
